Former Hi-5 star admits the children’s show was filled with filthy sexual jokes that kids couldn’t understand

Former Hi-5 star Nathan Foley has admitted that the iconic children’s show was filled with dirty jokes their young audience couldn’t understand.

The former children’s entertainer, 43, who was a member of the original Hi-5 lineup from 1999 to 2008, made the shocking confession on Outspoken The Podcast.

He confessed that some of the show’s writers would include racy innuendo in the scripts, including jokes about ‘doggy style’ – unbeknownst to young viewers at home.

‘If you look back on Hi-5 and see some of the script, a lot of the time there’s some dialogue in there and we’re going, “Hang on a second, this is not aimed at a kid,”‘ he told hosts Amy, Sophie and Kate Taeuber.

‘There was something that would come up and say like “doggy style” in the [script].’

He continued: ‘I’m like, “Okay so the kids have no idea, they’re just thinking of their pet in the backyard right now, but I know what you’re doing.”‘

It comes almost a year after Nathan released a solo album called Hurricane which celebrates ‘sexual empowerment’ and ‘our authentic selves’.

He debuted the album to a live audience in September last year, reported 9Honey at the time.

Posting to his Instagram about the big news last October, the buff star gushed over his new musical direction.

‘It was so incredible to finally release my music to a live audience,’ he said in his stories.

‘I was all anxious until I saw the crowd dancing to the songs I’d put so much of my heart into.’

The album features 13 songs, including the single Strut.

A member of the original Hi-5 lineup from 1999 to 2008, Nathan went on to perform in stage productions, including 2010’s Mamma Mia! and 2011’s Acoustic Rhythms.

In 2010, he performed in the musical Mama Mia! and toured Australia while in 2011, he toured with Acoustic Rhythms, a new show.

Nathan also competed in the 2019 season of Channel Nine’s The Voice, but was out in the first round.
