Former Just Stop Oil donor Dale Vince is slammed by furious Question Time audience member after he accused Israel of committing ‘genocide’ in Gaza

Former Just Stop Oil donor Dale Vince has been slammed by a furious Question Time audience member after he accused Israel of committing ‘genocide’ in Gaza.

Mr Vince said during the discussion that Israel was committing ‘genocide’ and had cost ‘150,000 lives and injuries’.

This was met with a furious response by a man in the audience, who said: ‘How dare you say that. Genocide happened to six million Jews in the Second World War. Where is the equivalence?

‘Did you mention the atrocity that happened on the seventh of October when Hamas and the Palestinians invaded Israel and killed innocent women, children? Do you understand that? How dare you say that! You’re ill informed, my friend.’

Mr Vince replied: ‘I’m aware of the atrocity of 7th of October, 1500 Israelis lost their lives. Since then, the brutalisation of Palestine, of all of the people in Palestine, has taken 150,000 lives and injuries.’

But the audience member asked: ‘Is Israel allowed to defend its borders?’

Host Fiona Bruce then asked the man, who she said was making a ‘strong’ and ‘passionate’ point, to allow Mr Vince to go on.

‘So let me speak – 90 per cent of the Palestinian population have been displaced. There’s been famine, all kinds of problems,’ Mr Vince continued.

‘Before the war, the Palestinians were a captive population with no control, no access to the outside world through ports and airports and stuff like that – they are captive in their own country. We’re talking 150,000 casualties versus 1500, neither is right.’

Former Tory minister David Davis joined in, saying: ‘You’re surely not saying that justifies rape, torture, murder.’

Mr Vince replied: ‘No, of course not.’

This comes a week after Mr Vince claimed that he won his court battle with ex-wife Kate Vince following the pair’s divorce.

Ms Vince was awarded more than £40million by a High Court judge this month after the pair had previously disagreed over how finances should be divided at a hearing last month.

However, the energy mogul’s lawyer has said she is ‘delighted’ the court recognised Dale’s wishes that Mrs Vince should receive less than half the assets.

Davina Katz, Senior Partner of Katz Partners LLP who represented Mr Vince, said: ‘Throughout these proceedings Mrs Vince sought 50 per cent of the assets despite the fact that Dale had worked very hard for many years before they met, building Ecotricity.

‘I am delighted for Dale that the court has recognised this and agreed with him that fairness dictates Mrs Vince should receive less than half the assets.

‘Mrs Vince was seeking a settlement of over £60million and has been awarded £41.8million, which is a great deal less than Dale had offered her from the outset, before this matter came to Court.’

Ms Vince’s lawyer Sarah Jane Lenihan, of Dawson Cornwell, said: ‘We are very grateful to the court for the fair and equitable award granted.

‘It is only right that Ms Vince has received an award which reflects her extensive contributions throughout the marriage, which the judge acknowledged, during which Mr Vince built the majority of his fortune.’
