Former Leicester City player and Premier League winner Marcin Wasilewski has been tipped to become a cage fighter after his retirement from football.

The Polish defender spent four years at the King Power Stadium before leaving for Wisla Krakow in 2017 and he retired earlier this month.

Wasilewski, 40, played four times in the 2015-16 Premier League season when Leicester shocked English football by winning the top-flight title under Claudio Ranieri.

He also helped the Foxes to win the Championship title in 2013-14 before playing 25 times on their return to the Premier League in 2014-15.

The Pole was then largely used as back-up to first-choice defensive pairing Wes Morgan and Robert Huth during the title-winning campaign.

But after hanging up his boots it appears Wasilewski, who is known to be a huge fan of MMA, is in no mood to wind down.

Polish fight promoter Mateusz Borek has claimed the former Anderlecht defender could soon be stepping inside a cage himself.

He also hinted at a possible fight with former Bolton and Hearts defender Blazej Augustyn, who has also moved into MMA.

According to The Sun, he said: ‘I know Marcin’s sporting career is not yet over.

‘I think one of the MMA organisations will convince him to enter the cage.

‘I know that this has always been Marcin’s dream.

‘People have said it would be a good fight between him and Blazej Augustyn.’

Wasilewski overcame a major setback during his time with Anderlecht after suffering a fractured leg following a challenge by Belgium and Borussia Dortmund ace Axel Witsel way back in 2009.

Borek thinks the ability to overcome that adversity will stand him in good stead in his new endeavour.

He added: ‘I have respect for his entire career, and the way he overcame his fate.

‘To rise up again after what an opponent did to him in the Belgian league deserves a world title.’
