He and his mother made it to the semi-finals of the cooking series.

Since appearing on the show, the fan favourites from Western Australia used their new-found fame and platform to make a difference in society – remaining a mother and son team.

He spoke exclusively to Daily Mail Australia about joining forces again, this time to campaign for marriage equality.

‘I mean the response and the support has been huge. It’s given me opportunities that I wouldn’t have had before,’ he noted of the show’s impact.

‘Definitely opened up a lot of doors and given me the confidence to pursue my passion,’ he added.

Jordan, who is MKR’s first openly gay contestant, said he was surprised his sexuality was such a big story on the show.

‘For me it was odd that it [his sexuality] was in the limelight,’ he confessed.

‘I’m very proud to be gay and I just said under no circumstance am I going to lie about it.

‘So it did get shined upon, which I was shocked about. But I was kind of happy as well because every time there is a gay man or a gay woman standing out on the network or any publication it makes it easier for another individual who might be shy or embarrassed about it.’
