Speaking to Bola Branca, Lobo said: ‘He is one of the best players at FC Porto and leaving for this fee is a bad deal.

‘We are talking about one of the gems of FC Porto, one of the players who came from our academy. The DNA of FC Porto.

‘We lost him. It’s another piece of business that I don’t understand.

‘We are talking about ridiculous values for players who represent and are FC Porto.

‘They are from our academy and we are letting them go for unbelievable fees.’

Last week another former presidential candidate, Fernando Rio, claimed that Porto manager Sergio Conceicao’s job could be under threat as a result of the transfer.

Rio was disappointed that Porto accepted a fee for Vieira that was less than his release clause of around £42.3million.

Arsenal have yet to finalise the signing of Vieira, but it is expected that the deal will be completed soon.

Vieira is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or out wide, and the 22-year-old would provide Arsenal with an extra creative option.

Arsenal are also looking to bring in winger Raphinha from Leeds and striker Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, while Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is also under consideration.

The Gunners have already secured the signing of youngster Marquinhos, while a deal to bring goalkeeper Matt Turner to the club was agreed in January.
