Former Premier League star Charlie Austin slams ‘AWFUL’ Australian TV as English expat struggles to adapt after move to Brisbane… and even Aussies AGREE with him!
Charlie Austin swapped the rain and cold for sunshine and beaches earlier this year, but there are some home comforts the Englishman is sorely missing, after he took to Twitter to hit out at the standard of TV in Australia.
The 33-year-old joined Brisbane Roar from Queen’s Park Rangers at the end of the 2021-22 season, putting aside his fear of spiders and snakes to move Down Under and become the club’s marquee signing for the new campaign.
Austin has scored three goals in six appearances since joining Warren Moon’s side, but away from the pitch, the Englishman is far from impressed with the quality of programming on Aussie TV compared to Blighty.
Charlie Austin has taken to Twitter to vent his frustrations with Australian television
‘Australian TV is awful!!!!!’ he posted to his 164,000 Twitter followers.
And plenty of Aussies agreed with the Englishman’s analysis, with a glut of replies confirming that there is not much on offer when it comes to quality viewing.
‘You’re not wrong we hate it here,’ one fan replied.
Another said: ‘Agreed from an Aussie,’ while a third added: ‘Imagine what it was like 30 years ago… well not much different… was c**p then and c**p now.’
‘Nobody in Australia really watches TV anymore.’

However, he is distinctly unimpressed with the quality of television on offer Down Under
Meanwhile, one follower outlined that Australians do not spend much time indoors, claiming that because of the poor weather, Brits demand more from TV broadcasters.
‘Because we do other things than watch TV,’ @woolydave17 replied. ‘Not locked in our houses for 8 months of the year due to the weather.’
Austin has made a big impact since moving Down Under, and was filmed launching a foul-mouthed tirade at one of his Roar teammates during their 2-0 loss to Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium.
Plenty of fans concurred with the veteran striker’s opinion on Twitter on Tuesday evening
Roar defender Connor Chapman was at fault for both of the visitors’ goals and Austin vented his fury during a tense half-time showdown.
‘Game management? F*** me,’ he begins. ‘Hey Chappo… Chappo! The ball is running out of play, don’t kick it out, it’ll be our f***ing goal kick.
‘Just see it out, suck him in! Get a f***ing foul! You’ve given a f***ing corner away [and] they score! You missed the first one, you missed the f***ing second.
‘And then the geezer chops back and you dangle your f***ing leg. What the f*** are you doing man! They do that in the [Under] 12s man, this is professional football. F***ing hell. Just defend!’
