Can you run up the stairs?

I can run up a couple of flights of stairs. I mainly rely on dance rehearsals to keep fit — I’m not touring at the moment, so I haven’t been exercising but I’m going to be getting back into it. I’ve got my own exercise routine I do at home with a TRX kit [suspension strap used to bear your own weight].

Get your five a day?

I try to. I’m one of those people that likes to eat a lot of everything. I do love fruit — bananas, berries, apples. I’ve tried to slow down on red meats.

Ever dieted?

I have. After the lockdowns I had to get back in shape for Strictly, but it took me a month or so to get back to where I wanted to be. I’m about 6 ft tall and I usually weigh about 85kg (13st 5lb).

Any vices?

I’m a very sociable guy and I like to drink socially. But I stick to clear spirits such as gin, and a bit of tequila, too.

Any family ailments?

Psoriasis. I get it on my legs, shins, knees and elbows. It’s worse when I’m touring. I think it’s the stress of moving around. In lockdowns, as I was stressing about not working, my psoriasis got a little worse then, too.

Worst injury?

I have twisted my ankles and dislocated my shoulders. It’s a dancer’s thing. But if you’re active, you tend to come back from injuries quicker.

Pop any pills?

In the past I have tried maybe 50 different products to help with my psoriasis. Now I take capsules and a cream [with plant extracts used in traditional Chinese medicine], which have made a big difference. I also take a multivitamin and vitamin C.

Ever have plastic surgery?

Never say never, but I don’t see it happening as of now.

Cope well with pain?

I’m fairly good but if Janette [his wife, former Strictly dancer Janette Manrara, 39] is in pain, then I think I’m hurting as much as if the pain was mine.

Tried alternative remedies?

I get acupuncture on a weekly basis when I’m touring, and I did when I was on Strictly. I have it mainly for my aches and pains. I see a chiropractor, too, as I get neck pains.

Ever been depressed?

No. Just the normal ups and downs of life.

Hangover cure?

Two large glasses of water before I go to bed and then a painkiller.

What keeps you awake?

If I am away from home, I tend to be on my phone too much.

Any phobias?

I’m afraid of spiders and snakes. Janette deals with spiders.

Like to live for ever?

Yes, on the one condition that all the people that I care about do, too.
