Romero is a former UFC middleweight title challenger – even though he never actually claimed the gold.

Nevertheless, he is renowned for being one the strongest and most feared competitors in MMA.

Speaking about a potential bout with Paul, Romero told MMA Hour: ‘Initially they wanted to do the fight with me.

‘That was when I was just getting out of the UFC, he had not signed with Bellator yet, and they said eventually no they don’t want me… They decided to go with Ben Askren.’

As a result, Romero – who fought his last bout against Israel Adesanya in March 2020 – believes Paul’s team are only ‘finding the easy fights’ for the 24-year-old.

He said: ‘They don’t want to face a real fighter. [Jake and Logan Paul] are just trying to make it a show and they don’t want to ruin their show,’ Romero added.

‘They’re finding the easy fights. Even though (Logan) fought Mayweather, but the thing is, there’s a huge weight difference.’

Romero comments come just days after Paul announced that he wanted to fight a ‘real boxer’ following his victory over Tyron Woodley last month.

Paul beat the former UFC welterweight champion by split decision on August 28 to take his record to four wins from four. However, the YouTube sensation is yet to face an actual boxer.

As a result, Paul is campaigning to fight Tommy Fury as he believes the 22-year-old’s ‘skillset’ and ‘legendary boxing bloodline’ would present him with a new challenge.

‘I think it’s on to bigger and better things,’ Paul said on the Full Send Podcast. ‘I want to fight a real boxer. We’ll see what the cards have in store.’

He continued: ‘I think Tommy Fury is probably the top of that list. He’s skilled, he’s undefeated, and he’s a real boxer.

‘He has like 4 million followers on Instagram, which is good engagement. He has the fans from like his relationship show (‘Love Island’).

‘Tommy Fury – this guy comes from a legendary boxing bloodline. He’s undefeated and he’s the same height as me, same age approximately. And I’m sitting here saying, ‘Yo, let’s run it up.”
