- Formula One fans have lauded Oscar Piastri
- The Aussie climbed from P18 to P10
- He showed his class once again in Las Vegas
Oscar Piastri climbed from P18 to a points finish in Las Vegas to earn even more plaudits from the Formula One masses after another superb drive in his rookie season.
The young Australian suffered a nightmare qualifying session on Friday, with McLaren failing to find the pace that has seen them take podium finishes in Suzuka and Singapore this season.
But amid the carnage of the sport’s very first race in Sin City, Piastri kept his cool to slice through the pack, at one point rising as high as third position before a coming together with Lewis Hamilton forced him back down the order.
The McLaren star finished the race in 10th, while his British teammate Lando Norris went to hospital after suffering a nasty crash during the race.
‘It was definitely eventful and pretty entertaining,’ Piastri said of the race.
Oscar Piastri has been lauded by Formula One fans once again
The Australian driver climbed from P18 to P10 at the Las Vegas Grand Prix
‘Carnage at turn one, so starting at the back wasnt as bad as it potentiually looks. The pace was really good. Just a shame that we had to stop again. We were looking really good up until that point, it could have been P4.
‘Yestereday was not very representative of our pace, we were just caught out by using one set of tyres.
‘Yesterday makes today look a thousand times better although today was a bit of a surpriise, the pace we had. The joys of cold track, new track and Pirelli tyres.’
While Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was officially awarded the Driver of the Day prize, F1 gans took to Twitter to proclaim Piastri their best driver of the race.
‘Oscar Piastri deserves driver of the day,’ one fan wrote.
‘He is insane,’ said another fan, referring to Piastri.
‘Oscar Piastri you are driver of the day in my eyes and that’s all that matters,’ said a third.
