Forty-five people are injured by extreme turbulence that threw people into the air on budget flight over Mexico

Forty-five passengers and crew were injured during severe turbulence on a Mexican flight.

Terrifying video from inside the Airbus showed an injured passenger lying flat on their back in the middle of the aisle while another man was seen with bloody gashes on his hand.

In the footage, concerned parents are spotted caressing their young children and crew members can be heard calling for a doctor over the speaker.

Overhead compartments were broken and left dangling above passenger’s heads. 

Mexican airline Volaris confirmed that their flight 423 from Guadalajara to Tijuana suffered severe turbulence which caused injuries to crew members.

The State Coordination of Baja California of the Federal Police said the flight had hit strong winds when crossing over Mexicali in Baja California.

Volaris is a Mexican low-cost airline and is Mexico’s second largest airline after Aeromexico – and serves domestic and international destinations within the Americas.

Red Cross paramedics in Tijuana airport wait for the plane to land before treating injured passengers

 A press statement read: ‘Some clients and members of the crew were reported as injured. 

‘Clients and members of the crew were attended to after landing in Tijuana by the medical services.’ 

Federal police sources confirmed that 45 people were injured in the incident and seven had been taken to hospital. 

Those not taken to hospital were treated by Red Cross paramedics in Tijuana airport.
