Adam Schlesinger from the band Fountains of Wayne has been hospitalized after contracting Covid-19.

The Grammy winner, 52, is on a ventilator but not in a coma, confirmed his attorney Josh Grier via Variety.

‘He’s very sick and is heavily sedated, as are all people on ventilators, but no one has used the word “coma” to me,’ Josh said to the outlet.

Adam’s cousin, actor Jon Bernthal, confirmed the news of his hospitalization on Twitter Tuesday as well as sharing a snap of him after he won an Emmy Award last fall.

The Walking Dead actor wrote: ‘This is my big cousin Adam. As a little boy I would be mesmerized by his talent. He showed me how cool it was to be an artist.’

Adding: ‘We love you Cuz. Stay strong. Bless you and all of the hero’s at the hospital on the front line. Please keep Adam in your heart.’

Initial reports had claimed Adam was in a medically induced coma, however that is not the case according to Josh, who has been his attorney for 25 years.

The musician is being hospitalized in upstate New York and has been there for more than a week, where he is receiving excellent medical care, Josh said.

However, the doctors have been reluctant in giving predictions about his recovery due to the unknown nature of Covid-19.

Adam and wife Katherine Michel, who have been married since 1999, have two daughters named Sadie and Claire.

Adam founded Fountains of Wayne with Chris Collingwood in 1995; the duo recruited guitarist Jody Porter and drummer Brian Young.

One of the band’s biggest hit was the 2003 tuned Stacy’s Mom, which led the group to be nominated for two Grammy Awards that same year – for Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Group.

However, Adam won a Grammy in 2009 for his work on A Stephen Colbert Christmas.

The musician and songwriter was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for That Thing You Do!’s theme song he penned; the film, directed by Tom Hanks, was about a one-hit pop band called The Wonders.

Adam, a ten-time Emmy nominee, picked up an Emmy Award for his work on the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for Outstanding original music and lyrics for the song in the series called Antidepressants Are So Not A Big Deal.

The artist picked up the trophy at the 2018 Emmys alongside the series’ star Rachel Bloom and Jack Dolgen.
