Four Things You Shouldn’t Forget to Do Before A Commercial Move

If you are moving your business, whether to expand, downsize, or simply relocate, there are many tasks that you have to do in order to seamlessly transition from one location to the next. But we are not just talking about moving.

Yes, while you need the help of hiring the best moving companies to help you move all your assets to your new location, there are many important things that business owners often forget to do while anticipating or even work through the big move.

With that said, here is a list of tasks that every business owner must review before and during a commercial move so that they can get back to work with confidence as soon as they are settled.

Order New Assets in Advance

The list of things that can possibly go wrong on your first day at a new location is a long one. Somebody might get towed in the parking lot because they don’t have a pass, some people will be without desks or comfy chairs to sit in, or the whole staff could be without a cool place to store food throughout the day. Case in point, you do not want to be missing anything on your first day in your new building.

That is why you shouldn’t wait to order assets such as new furniture, appliances, and parking passes, so that you and all your employees have what they need to work at the new place with comfort, convenience, and of course, without trouble. If you wait until after your move to order these things, your staff could have to spend weeks without them. Do not forget to have new assets ready or else your employees would have to pay for your mistake.

Have Utilities Ready at Your New Location

This is something that almost all business owners remember to do, but it still is worth noting so that you have each utility working on your first day. To business owners moving for the first time, you will have to pay for electricity, water, gas, and internet at your new location. Your internet service provider and utility companies will need at least a week to provide your location with these essentials, but you should start paying for utilities for your new building at least one month in advance.

If you forget to order utilities, your whole facility would be without water, electricity, gas and internet until you order them and they are provided. Of course, nobody can be able to work without them, so your business will have to be closed for a week or more until you receive them. Order your utilities in advance and you will never need to go on hiatus.

Reprint Marketing Collateral

Almost every company prints collateral such as brochures, business cards, and other promotional materials with their address on it. You will need to update these materials so that they show your new contact info instead of your old contact info. However, this can be very simple to forget for business owners, as they often assign designers to design these materials. For the next time to print collateral, you will need to be sure you will have the right phone number and address, or else clients and customers will end up calling and visiting your old place.

Update Your Directories

On the internet, there are a lot of websites that will have information about your company, including your phone number and where you are located. Not only will you have to update your information on your publications, but also other places on the web where this information will appear online.

Start with your website and your social media pages, as these can be the simplest and would require just your team to change this information. For websites like Google, Yelp, Angie’s List, and others, you may need to register your company or contact their customer service to have your information accurate.

Commercial moves are both monumental and exciting, but don’t forget to have everything ready and accurate so that day one and beyond goes off without a hitch. If you are considering hiring a mover now, don’t forget your assets, utilities, and information too.
