Four-year-old girl drowns at Orange Aquatic Centre

  • Her family and lifeguards on the scene rushed to save the girl’s life
  • After being taken to Orange Base Hospital, she was pronounced deceased

A four-year-old girl has drowned in a public swimming pool after desperate attempts were made by her family to save her. 

On Saturday afternoon emergency services were called to Orange Aquatic Centre in the central west of NSW,

The young girl was found motionless in the pool at about 3.35pm and attempts were made by the family and lifeguards on the scene to save her life.

She was taken to Orange Base Hospital when the ambulance arrived where she was pronounced deceased. 

Police from Canobolas Local Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident and are speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage.

The pool posted about the incident on Facebook to say they were shutting the premises. 

‘The Aquatic Centre is closed until Monday morning. Earlier today, after an incident at the centre, a young girl was taken to hospital.

While pool and council staff respond to this incident, the centre will be closed. With apologies for this inconvenience,’ it read.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner as investigations continue.
