Fox confuses German Shepherd by running in and out of a tunnel

This is the hilarious moment a German Shepherd tries to catch a sly fox that keeps escaping from him.

Kristen Lewis, from Lake City, Florida, filmed the adorable footage of her pet fox, called Riot, playing chase with her pet dog, called Cass.

The fox can be seen dodging the confused dog by burrowing into a tunnel and escaping from different ends.

In the video posted to Facebook, Cass the German Shepherd looks confused as he stands at one end of the tunnel waiting for Riot to emerge.

He sticks his head into the tunnel entrance, trying to squeeze into the gap that is far too small for him.

The cheeky vulpine does eventually pop out but at the opposite end to where the dog is waiting.

The canine chases after Riot but is too slow. Cass again waits by the entrance but the fox cheekily pops out on the other side.

They carry the hilarious act on for a few more minutes with Riot clearly delighted at the new found game.

A second dog comes out to join Cass and help him in his attempt to catch Riot.

But even with two canines on the case the fox is far too cunning and fast.

The video is recorded by the owner Miss Lewis who can be heard laughing in delight in the background.

She can be heard warning her dogs that the fox has found a new way to tease them.

The animals stop the hilarious game when they hear a car pull up and Miss Lewis asks them ‘who’s back?’

As the dogs stare off into the distance, Riot darts out of the tunnel a final time, running towards the sound of the car.

The video was shared to Facebook where people reacted with delight to the adorable chase.

However, some criticised the idea of a fox being kept in a garden as a pet.

Responding to some comments, Miss Lewis, who runs a fox century in Florida, said: ‘These are my babies. This of all videos should show how much fun he’s having but I guess I can’t please everyone.

‘Riot lives the dream most foxes wish they had. Plus he’s not wild and never has been. I never took him from anywhere. He’s captive bred like many other pet foxes.

‘So unlike wild foxes he gets to enjoy a full bowl every day, a warm bed, mine or otherwise! He does have free rein of my house, and no predators, disease, or fighting to survive. Pretty much his needs and wants are completely catered to. We even celebrate his birthday every year with something special. Not that he knows or anything but I do.

‘His birthday is soon and I already bought him gifts.’
