Status Quo star Francis Rossi has revealed how he won the heart of his wife-to-be while she was married to another man – and pregnant with her first child.

The rocker, now 69, was desperate to reignite his romance with old flame Eileen Queen after the collapse of his marriage to first wife Jean.

In a candid interview with today’s Event magazine the star recalls how he pursued Eileen even though she had started a new life in New York.

Rossi flew to the States where his cousin Patrick, who was a friend of Eileen, had arranged to have dinner with her. But Patrick excused himself and left, leaving Rossi and his former girlfriend alone.

Rossi said: ‘Eileen looked at me and knew immediately there was more to this than grabbing a bite and catching up. I just blurted the whole thing out. I knew I wanted to be with her.

‘We talked for hours, and she confessed she had strong feelings for me too. She said she needed to go home and speak to her husband.

‘I went back to Patrick’s place and waited for two hours. Then a knock at the door, and there she was: Eileen, come to run away with me. I was on my way back home to London and the start of a whole new life.’

Rossi and Eileen Quen married in 1991, have three children of their own and are still together.

Rossi also talks about his wild, womanising days when Status Quo went on the road in the 1960s.

‘I would find myself pacing in my hotel bathroom after a show, wondering how best to get rid of the drop-dead gorgeous girl waiting in my room.

‘Then when I came out, she would already be in the bed. Well, what was a poor lapsed Catholic boy to do?’
