Frank de Boer takes swipe at Crystal Palace

  • Frank de Boer made reference to his time as Crystal Palace boss on Instagram
  • De Boer posted picture of his daughter as she heads to University of Cambridge
  • Jackie de Boer is off to the prestigious university to study English for six months
  • De Boer posted ‘Longer than her daddy’ as hashtag in wishing her good luck

Frank de Boer could not resist making a quip about his short-lived stay as Crystal Palace manager as his daughter heads to study English at the University of Cambridge.

Many may have expected the Dutchman to still be reeling from his 77-day period as manager of the rock bottom Eagles, where he lost all four of his Premier League games with the Selhurst Park outfit.

Fellow managers within the game rushed to defend De Boer’s record after his Palace stint followed the 85 days he spent in charge of Inter Milan last season – but the man himself appears to be in good spirits.

De Boer is very proud his daughter is set to be at university for longer than he was at Palace

De Boer’s daughter Jackie is joining the thousands of students this month in heading to university, with the 20-year-old off to Cambridge.

Her father posted a picture of her posing in a green jacket in their native Holland, but it was the candid caption included which revealed the former Ajax manager’s good humour.

‘Good luck Jackie de Boer at Cambridge. Very proud of you. Studying English for 6 months. We gonna miss you #longerthenherdaddy #proud.’

De Boer will hope that by the end of his daughter’s course in March he will be back in management following his disastrous reign in south London.

De Boer was replaced as Eagles manager by former England boss Roy Hodgson last week

He was sacked as Crystal Palace manager following a 1-0 defeat by Burnley, and wrote on social media: ‘Very disappointed about the decision but never the less I want to thank the players, staff and the fans for their support.’

Palace have endured the worst-ever start to a Premier League season — losing their opening five games and failing to score a goal so far as Roy Hodgson’s first game in succeeding De Boer ended in a 1-0 home defeat by Southampton.

The 47-year-old will take heart from the amount of sympathy he has received after his dismissal, and he is unlikely to change his managerial philosophy having enjoyed plenty of success during his time at Ajax.
