Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury WOULD still be interested Anthony Joshua fight despite Usyk loss

Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury IS still interested in a Battle of Britain against Anthony Joshua despite AJ losing his world titles… but insists the Gypsy King would win ‘in every department’

  • Anthony Joshua was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk in London late last month
  • It means the Ukrainian is the natural target for Tyson Fury’s next encounter
  • But Fury’s promotor Frank Warren refused to rule out a Fury vs Joshua fight

Frank Warren has insisted a heavyweight ‘Battle of Britain’ between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could still happen, despite the differing fortunes of the two rivals in recent weeks.

Joshua lost all of his belts when he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last month before Fury cemented his place at the summit of heavyweight boxing by defeating Deontay Wilder once again.

A showdown between Usyk and Fury to unify the heavyweight division is now the anticipated next step among boxing fans but Joshua has activated his rematch clause with the Ukrainian.

‘Tyson always felt, and I think anybody who watched the fight against Wilder would agree, that he had AJ’s number,’ Warren told talkSPORT.

‘For me, he beats him in every department. He’s got a great chin, a bigger heart, he punches as hard as AJ – I don’t care what anyone says, look at those knockdowns against Wilder.

‘And, by the way, would AJ beat Wilder? I don’t think he would have done, on that performance I saw.

‘But does he [Fury] want the fight still? If it’s there and if it was to happen, that’s a choice he’ll make.

‘I still think it would be a massive draw, everybody has got an opinion about what would happen in that fight, but for me there’s only one winner there. And who knows, it could go on.

‘If AJ was to step aside and let us get the Usyk fight on, maybe he could fight the winner?’

Joshua is currently expected to have his rematch with Usyk scheduled for next spring. But Fury’s father, John Fury, has told his son to focus only on a fight with Usyk to unite the heavyweight division.

‘He’s got to go for Usyk or nothing in my idea. It’s Usyk next or nothing,’ he told talkSPORT. ‘I wouldn’t bother with the rest of them, they’re not in Tyson’s class.

‘You only see the best of Tyson when he’s against the best. A challenge like he had (against Wilder) and it was a great fight. For me, I told him: Usyk or don’t bother.’
