Free agent Trea Turner enlists John Hamm to narrate his highlight reel for MLB teams

Don Draper’s latest pitch: Free agent Trea Turner enlists John Hamm to narrate his highlight reel for MLB teams in hopes that the actor can help him land massive new deal

Free agent Trea Turner has enlisted one of the biggest names in Hollywood and advertising to pitch his services to MLB teams.

Actor John Hamm, whose voice is used to sell everything from Apple TV to Mercedes, narrated a montage of Turner highlights that is being distributed to MLB clubs by CAA, the agency that represents both men.

‘He can run. He can throw. He plays elite shortstop. He hits. He hits for power,’ Hamm, a lifelong Cardinals fan, is heard saying of the Dodgers free agent. ‘He can lead off and be a table-setter, or he can hit second or third and be a run producer.’

In addition to lending his voice to many popular television advertisements, Hamm also played an advertising executive, Don Draper, on the popular AMC series, Mad Men.

Turner is coming off his second straight All-Star appearance in his first full year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who acquired him in 2021 from the Washington Nationals.

Such a video is not uncommon for MLB free agents, who typically use a combination of advanced analytics and expert opinions to persuade teams to offer top contracts.

‘Since 2019 he’s been the second best position player in baseball according to fangraphs with a 20.1 fWAR,’ Hamm says.

‘Trea’s the only active shortstop with a lifetime career .300 plus batting average. The last shortstop to finish his career with a .300 average was Derek Jeter,’ Hamm later adds.

Hamm compares Turner’s crowd-please style of play to NBA star Stephen Curry and NFL legend Jerry Rice.

MLB insider John Heyman reported in the New York Post that Turner could net a contract in the range of nine years and $275 million. However, there are several other free-agent shortstops on the market, including Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa and Dansby Swanson.

‘You have the opportunity to change the direction of your franchise with a centerpiece, a player that gives you a chance to win every day with him at the top of your lineup,’ Hamm said. ‘Focus now because the opportunity will pass you by in a flash.’
