A French schoolgirl died in her bath after a charging phone fell onto her chest and slipped into the water in France, it has emerged. 

The 15-year-old, identified only as Tiffenn, was electrocuted after the device slipped into the water at her home in Marseille on Sunday.

Emergency crews rushed the girl to the city’s Timone hospital and tried to resuscitate her but to no avail.

The teenager is said to have died of cardio-respiratory failure as a result of an electrocution.

Reports claim she was in her bath with her smartphone on charger when it fell onto her chest and slipped into the water.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death. 

The make and model of the charging phone has has not yet been revealed. 

The magazine Closer have reported that the girl’s first name is Tiffenn.

According to local media, the schoolgirl’s tragic death has provoked a ‘wave of emotion’ on social media.

BFMTV report that 40 people die electrocuted every year in France with 3,000 injured.
