LOOKAHEAD TO THURSDAY
Nine months after Sloane Stephens beat Madison Keys for the U.S. Open title, the two young Americans meet again for a spot in the French Open final. It’s the first semifinal between a pair of American women at Roland Garros since Serena Williams beat Jennifer Capriati on her way to the 2002 title. Top-ranked Simona Halep is up against 2016 champion Garbine Muguruza in the other semifinal, with the No. 1 spot at stake: whoever advances to the final will top the WTA rankings next week. In men’s play, the two remaining men’s quarterfinals suspended by rain will resume: Rafael Nadal dropped the opening set of his match against 11th-seeded Diego Schwartzman 6-4 and was serving for the second at 5-3, 30-15 when play was halted. Marin Cilic and Juan Martin del Potro are even at 5-all in their opening-set tiebreaker.
