Passengers were forced to hogtie a French tourist who allegedly sparked chaos on a flight from Bali to Perth after a drunken dispute with his girlfriend.

Police allege the 32-year-old man and 29-year-old woman were intoxicated and began arguing on the Garuda Indonesia plane on Monday night.

Video from inside the cabin shows seven passengers holding the man down, before  his wrists, feet and legs were tied and he was strapped to a chair.

‘They were completely sloshed. They were quite jovial, but he got out of control,’ passenger John Caputo told Seven News.

‘They were having to settle him down, constantly telling him to calm down, having to use force to keep him to his chair because he obviously wanted to get out,’ Mr Caputo told Nine News.

The pilot was forced to divert to Port Headland, sparking a two-and-a-half hour delay.

‘It was quick, quicker than usual, we all had to get ready for a quick landing,’ Mr Caputo said.

‘I’ve been on a plane a lot in my time and I’ve never seen anything like this happen. But you just take it as it comes,’ Mr Caputo said.

The pair were each charged with two offences under civil aviation laws and are due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on September 14.
