Frequent flyer shares her ultimate plane travel tips after taking an incredible 22 flights in two months

Television star Shelly Horton has taken a lot of planes of late.

The Talking Married host recently hopped on a whopping 22 interstate flights during an eight week period as part of her work in the media.

And the 50-year-old has shared her top tips for frequent flying in a new column for Nine Honey.

Shelly advises travellers to skip checking bags for short trips, as simply having a carry-on makes it easy to hop on and off flights and speed through airports.

She also believes it’s well worth ‘a few extra bucks’ to pay for your seating choice and avoid the middle seat.

The TV personality also skips the plane food, instead carrying her own pepperoni sticks, nuts, veggie chips, and blocks of chocolate to eat inflight.

When it comes to dressing for a flight, ‘Long pants or skirts are my go-to’ she explains.

‘They spare you from the icky feeling of skin against airplane seats. Comfort is key, especially when you’re up in the air more than on the ground’ Shelly writes.

Shelly additionally suggests getting work done on the plane, instead of napping, and paying for access to the airport lounge to charge devices and have a rest.

Last but not least, she encourages collecting frequent flyer miles, even if the trip is paid for by your employer.

Another frequent flyer, Catriona Rowntree, also recently shared her travel tips.

Catriona certainly knows how to pack a suitcase, seeing as she has been all over the world as a host on travel show Getaway.

‘A week before I go away I generally put everything out and I either start to add or subtract what I think I’ll need,’ she tells Nine Now.

‘I always do my homework. I get my phone and look at what the weather is like. Check Instagram, see what the locals are wearing’.

She then adds everything to a check list using her ‘add and subtract’ method, and the night before her departure, anything that has been ticked off goes into the bag.

Catriona also uses packing cubes in various sizes for lingerie and other small items, takes clothes that don’t need to be ironed, sticks to three colours so she can ‘mix and match’ her outfits – and warns not to bring too many shoes.

‘Never take anything you’d be upset to lose’ Catriona insists, and adds that you should take photos of your luggage in case your bag gets lost.

A piece of surprising advice that flies in the face of modern travel tips – the TV host prefers to fold her clothes rather than roll them.

When it comes to the suitcase itself, Catriona prefers a hard case with wheels, that doesn’t look too fancy so as to be stolen or too ‘dodgy’ so as to be searched.
