Friends reunion: Show creator David Crane insists he’ll NEVER bring the programme back

For years Friends fans have hoped that the show will be brought back or re-imagined as a movie.

Yet David Crane has officially dashed the dreams of millions by insisting that a reunion will never happen as it would only end up ‘disappointing’ viewers.

Crane, who co-created the show Marta Kauffman in 1994, revealed that no amount of persuasion would prompt him to bring Rachel, Ross Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey back on screen.

They won’t be there for you: For years Friends fans have hoped that the show will be brought back or re-imagined as a movie. Yet David Crane has officially dashed the dreams of millions

Friends ran for 10 series between 1994 to 2004 and starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

Yet Crane insisted that he would never ask the six stars to reunite, telling RadioTimes.com: ‘Do you know what it’s like? It’s like, when you break up with somebody and then years later you have a chance to see them again, you don’t want to see them again.

‘No, but it’s done, it’s done. We put a bow on it, it’s done. We had 10 great years. God knows if you want to see Friends, it’s on television…

He added: It’s just I think it’s giving into a sort of a notion of what people think they want, but if you give people what they want, I think how can it not be ultimately be disappointing?

‘And also, because Friends was about a finite period of time in these people’s lives, when your friends are your family, when you’re that age.

‘Now, they’re adults with families of their own, it’s a different show. It’s The Big Chill, suddenly.’

Whilst the Friends cast have gone on to work with one another on several occasions in separate projects, they have all been in vocal in claiming they don’t want to bring back the show.

Le Blanc (Joey) said on Australian radio earlier this year ‘I think everyone’s imagination of what they (the characters) are doing is better,’ while Kudrow (Pheobe) has claimed a show about 50-somethings with the same problems as their 20-something characters would just be ‘sad.’

Perry (Chandler) said previously ‘The thing is: we ended on such a high. We can’t beat it. Why would we go and do it again?’, while Cox (Monica) simply put ‘it’s not going to happen’.

When asked in the past, Schwimmer (Ross) quipped: ‘Look, the thing is, I just don’t know if I want to see all of us with crutches [and] walkers’.

Aniston (Rachel) gave fans some hope earlier this year when asked about a reunion as she told Ellen DeGeneres ‘anything is a possibility’, however just months before that she had also shot down any hopes when she reasoned ‘I don’t know what we would do. I think that period of time was sort-of nostalgic, you know.’
