A mechanical failure on Sydney’s T2 Airport line left hundreds of commuters stranded for more than an hour on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 4pm a train broke down at Bexley North station causing mass delays along the all-important airport line.

Passengers caught at Kingsgrove station waited for updates after the 3:56pm service was held up on the platform.

One man loudly asked staff for some ‘f***ing news’ after more than 40 minutes of waiting before proclaiming he had missed his flight as a result of the break down.

Other commuters were asking other passengers for lifts into the city or to split a cab fare.

While these seemed to be the most reasonable responses, one man told Daily Mail Australia he would ‘just go to the pub and wait out the problem.’

More than five people followed suit and joined him at a local cafe in Kingsgrove.

The delays combined with limited information from train service staff created chaos among the distressed passengers.

Kingsgrove train guard Marg said she was ‘frustrated’ by the situation and had attempted to direct passengers to taxis and buses.

The train guards says ‘the situation doesn’t look good’ despite there being a mechanic at Bexley North attempting to solve the problem.

T2 Sydney Trains revealed it was working on fixing the train but could not say when services would be up and running again.

‘We’re working on getting affected train moving ASAP but as we mentioned we don’t have an ETA. We’re in the process of organising buses, but they will take time to arrive,’ a Twitter post read.

People were encouraged to delay their journeys if they were planning to use the affected line.

As of 5.25pm the Bexley North train was moved from the track and passengers, now an hour and a half late for work, flights and a Saturday evening on the town, were able to continue on their journey towards the CBD.

Passengers at Kingsgrove cheered as they were delivered the good news, while others could be seen running back down the station steps from the pub.

The trains visited all stations rather than limited stops to pick up any passengers who might be caught along the way.
