A fully-clothed unconscious woman has been pulled from the water in Sydney’s eastern suburbs – but police can’t explain how or why she found herself in danger.

Emergency services responded to reports of an unconscious woman in Yarra Bay about 9pm on Thursday, according to Nine News.

Mark Dijakovic said he saw two people performing CPR on the woman after she was pulled from the water.

‘I just saw a lady on her side on the beach and two guys pretty much pumping her,’ he said.

‘I said to them ”do you need some assistance? I’ll call the ambulance” and they said they were already on the phone.’

The woman was taken to Saint George Hospital in a critical condition.

Police didn’t know the identity of the woman when she was taken to hospital.

She has since been identified, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with more information.

They have been unable to determine why she entered the water or what led to her experiencing distress.
