Funeral held for slain Comancheros bikie boss Mick Hawi

Hundreds of mourners – and a large police contingent – have arrived at a Sydney mosque to farewell former Comancheros president Mick Hawi.

Lebanese migrant Mahmoud ‘Mick’ Hawi, 37, was gunned down by unknown hit men outside his gym, Fitness First Rockdale, last Thursday.

Mosque officials said he will be farewelled at traditional prayers, where it is understood his body will be washed as per Islamic custom and his family members will spend time with him.

A large police van sat outside the entrance of Arncliffe’s Al Zahra mosque shortly after midday and police cars sat on most corners in the block surrounding the place of worship. Police said they were there to ensure the funeral did not disrupt traffic.

A convoy of luxury cars arrived at the mosque just before midday with Hawi’s wife Carolina and their two sons, as well as immediate family.

Up to 200 mourners, many dressed in black tribute t-shirts with Haw’s face and name on the back, were seen piling into the mosque.
