This is the moment a restaurant owner threw himself on to a car and punched through the windshield after a group of tourists criticised his service.

Footage shows Mihal Kokedhima clinging to the bonnet of the vehicle in Porto Palermo, southern Albania, and hammering at the windscreen as a group of Spanish tourists tried to drive away.

The 51-year-old held on for two miles and can be trying to rip out the glass in his attempt to stop the men, who he later accused of trying to leave without paying. 

The violence was so heinous it has been condemned by Albanian Prime Minster Edi Rama. He described Kokedhima as a ‘barbarian’ who ‘violated the sacred code of Albanian hospitality’ and ‘shamed us all’. 

Kokedhima has since been arrested.

Appearing in court on Sunday, he said he wanted to get his money back after the group ‘left without paying’ according to Albanian news website dosja.al. 

In the viral footage, Kodedhima, who owns a restaurant in Porto Palermo flung himself on a windshield and punched at it, after he pulled away broken glass with his hands.     

He continued atop the car for almost two miles, while his bleeding hands smeared blood across the smashed windshield.

Throughout the clip, the passengers kicked the restaurant owner away, but he managed to stay atop the car.

When the car came to a stop, Kodedhima jumped off and tried to open the car’s door.

After the clip, filmed by a passenger in the back of the car, went viral, Albania’s tourism minister offered to meet the tourists and present them with flowers, while the Prime Minster condemned the actions of the restaurateur.

Posting to his official Facebook, Edi Rama wrote: ‘The barbarism that hit the Spanish friends, violated the holy code of Albanian hospitality, and shamed of us all.

‘Hospitality is the most important power of Albanian tourism.

‘The aggression of last night is a stain of shame to never be forgotten’.
