Furious customers blast ‘absolutely terrible’ Manchester Christmas Markets over ‘raw food’, £9 hot chocolate and no festive stalls

Christmas lovers who flocked to a festive market in Manchester have been left bitterly disappointed after claiming the beverages are overpriced and the food is ‘raw’.

The punters took to social media to complain about the Bavarian-themed market, branding it the ‘worst ever’ of its kind they had ever been to.

They also claimed that, with soaring travel and accommodation prices in the north west city, it would be ‘cheaper to go to Germany’.

The Sun reported one customer complained he and his partner were ‘ripped off’ after buying two cups of cocoa which cost £16 – and when they walked back by the stall just a short while later the price had gone up to £18.

Another hungry customer claimed they had paid almost £20 for a vegan hot dog. They added that, while they were not actually vegan, the unappealing sight of the salt beef sandwiches on offer put them off the idea of eating meat.

The same social media user reportedly said the markets were ‘vile’ and ‘not Christmas markets’.

Many customers left the market feeling ‘ripped off’ at the prices, which they argued were simply money-making without offering much to customers.

One person wrote: ‘Nothing at all Christmassy, pre-Covid they were lovely stalls selling Christmas ornaments, now it’s all food and drink mostly £15 for two mugs of hot chocolate, cocktails £9 for a snowball – just pure greed.’

‘In Manchester for the Christmas market. What a joke! Piccadilly Gardens is a disgrace. Get me out of here,’ another said.

Another summed up his experience of the market with just one simple sentence: ‘Manchester Christmas market utter s****’

Despite several less than glowing reviews of the Christmas market, some people have taken to Twitter to post photos of the delicious-looking snacks they picked up at the market.

Customers took to Twitter to share their varied opinions on the Manchester Christmas Market - with some claiming they had enjoyed it, but many arguing it was not up to their standards

One satisfied customer posted a photo of her deep fried apple doughnuts on sticks, which appeared to be garnished with butter. She captioned the photo: ‘I went to the Manchester Christmas Market for one thing and one thing only.’

But one person suggested the hype over the treats at the market couldn’t possibly be real as she criticised the quality of the food.

She said: ‘Everyone must be fake-loving the dutch pancakes at the Manchester Christmas Market, they are raw inside.’

The website for the Christmas markets reads: ‘With over 220 stalls across nine sites throughout the city centre, this year’s Christmas Markets are set to bring some much-needed festive cheer to the city’s streets and squares in the run-up to Christmas.’

However it seems some have been left underwhelmed by their experiences, with some arguing they’ve never thought much of the event.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Just your annual reminder that Manchester’s Christmas Markets are absolutely terrible.’
