Furious footy fans blast Cowboys for snubbing hundreds of young players and leaving them in tears

Furious North Queensland Cowboys supporters have put the club on blast after players went straight to the sheds after their heavy loss to the Roosters instead of meeting young fans.

The Laurie Spina Shield was played in Townsville on the Friday and Saturday before the game. It is one of the country’s biggest junior rugby league carnivals and well over 1,000 under-11 players went to the Cowboys Roosters game afterwards.

Unfortunately for the young fans, the Cowboys were hammered 28-4 by the rampaging Roosters. But it got worse, with the players quickly retreating into the changerooms after the final siren.

They failed to come back out again to meet the legion of young fans, which left the children in tears. 

After big wins over Canberra and Brisbane, the Cowboys came back to earth with a thud in their heavy home loss to the Roosters

‘Absolutely p*** poor form North Queensland Cowboys,’ mother Chelsea Baker said in a post that has been shared more than 650 times.

‘Just because you lost doesn’t really excuse just walking off the field when you literally have THOUSANDS of kids who just participated in the Laurie Spina Carnival lined up around your field eagerly waiting to see you and you just take your sorry a***s straight to the sheds.

‘What a f***ing joke, there is so many young boys and girls along this fence in tears.’

Another parent posted a sad video of his son signing his own football, after the Cowboys players did not come around to sign it for him. 

‘How sad, my son was waiting to get an autograph from the Cowboys and they didn’t even come over,’ he said.

‘So he is drawing on his own ball. Poor effort boys, poor effort.

‘Laurie Spina Cup for the kids, all about the kids and you couldn’t come around. How sad.’

The posts have been shared numerous times and outrage has been flooding in from North Queensland supporters. 

‘Win, lose or draw the club and its current players must always recognise and acknowledge its members, supporters and many children that play and or absolutely love their home team regardless of the result,’ one fan posted.

‘The example they are setting for their future stars. What a joke. Wonder if they realise it’s these aspiring players that are keeping their ratings going. They’d be nothing without the people supporting them. Disgusting behaviour,’ posted another.

‘Wow. Pretty disappointed in my team right now. Hope the kids didn’t take it too hard, but I expect much better from a family/community friendly club,’ lamented yet another Cowboys supporter.
