Fury after Sheffield’s Lord Mayor displays ’10 commandments’ poster

Sheffield’s new Lord Mayor has been slammed after designing a poster warning festival-goers to not be a ‘p****’ or to ‘kiss a Tory’.

Magid Magid has come under fire for the advertisement of his ’10 commandments’ published at Hillsborough Park during Sheffield’s Tramlines music festival.

The Green Party councillor tweeted a picture of the poster which lists rules such as: ‘Don’t be a p****’, ‘do epic s***’, and ‘don’t kiss a Tory’.

He also suggested for people to ‘be kind’ and to ‘tell ya ma you love her’.

But the controversial display has split opinion with many labelling the sticker ’embarrassing’ and ‘overstepping the line’.

Social media users also questioned how the 28-year-old could include the line regarding Conservative party members while claiming to be a tolerant individual.

In response, the Lord Mayor said: ‘Please [don’t] take it serious, it’s just tongue and cheek.’

Yet one social media user wrote: ‘Magid, I’ve respected your term in office up until now – but replace “tory” with, “gay”, “lesbian” or even “ugly person” and it’s pretty “serious” when seen in that light.’

Another said: ’11th – don’t make Sheffield a laughing stock …oh wait …’

Some parents also took issue with the swearing featured on the sticker, with one writing: ‘I was taking the kids to Sheffield this afternoon but seriously reconsidering. Child: “what’s a pri*k mummy?” Me: “er….”‘

Yet it wasn’t all criticism for the unique poster, with one tweeting: ‘Awesome! My 10-year-old loved seeing you at his school recently and describes you as a legend!’

Others said: ‘Wise words!’ and ‘I’m moving to Sheffield’.

His inauguration image, which showed him squatting on a stair column in Sheffield town hall, proved highly popular.

Magid, who featured on popular Channel 4 show The Hunted, also caused quite a stir after labelling Donald Trump a ‘wasteman’ while banning the US President from the city.

He made the announcement on Twitter, citing Mr Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’, the detention of children at the border, and withdrawing the US from the Paris Climate Agreement as reasons.

Afterwards he tweeted: ‘Magid Magid, Lord Mayor & first citizen of this city hereby declare that not only is Donald J Trump a WASTEMAN, but he is also henceforth banned from the great city of Sheffield!

‘I further declare July 13th to be Mexico Solidarity Day!’

However, as Mayor, Magid has no powers to ban the president – or anyone – from Sheffield.

The Mayor, according to the council in Sheffield is an ‘ambassador for the area; promoting it as a place to live, work, visit and invest in’.
