A game keeper has been mauled to death by three of his lions after entering the animals’ enclosure in South Africa.

The man, who has not been named, was killed Tuesday morning at the Dinokeng Game Reserve, around 30 miles north of Pretoria.

He was tending to three big cats, which he owned, inside their enclosure when they attacked him. All three lions were shot dead afterwards.

Xander Loubser, a private medic who attended the scene, told News 24: ‘The decision to shoot the lions was made by people on the premises in order to get to the deceased.

‘We are awaiting the arrival of the official paramedic to get more information about the incident. 

‘It is now a police matter, so the man’s remains have not yet been removed.’
