Game Of Thrones director tells of gruesome finale

Game of Thrones fans may need to prepare themselves for the worst when it comes to the fate of the warring Stark sisters in the upcoming season seven finale.

Director Alan Taylor dropped a major hint about Arya and Sansa – portrayed by Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner respectively – admitting the final episode of the HBO fantasy drama looks set to be ‘lethal’, ‘violent’ and ‘surprising.

On Sunday night’s show, titled Beyond The Wall, tensions between the siblings reached breaking point after reuniting in the north following a long separation.

‘I love the fact that these two come back,’ director Alan Taylor said in an interview with HuffPost.

‘They’re both lethal, and I just wanted to give the impression, as much as possible, that one of them is going to die. But you’re not sure which one.’

Tensions rose at the Wall when Arya confronted Sansa about her letter requesting Robb Stark (Richard Madden) to bend the knee to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) of Kings’ Landing.

Sansa also followed Littlefinger’s questionable advice to send her only protector away, Brienne of Tarth.

‘Arya is certainly lethal and sort of threatening, but when Sansa sends Brienne away, who is Arya’s natural protector, something is coming very soon between them, and it will be violent but surprising,’ the director noted.

To add fuel to the already blazing fire, Arya gave Sansa her dagger in the episode with a warning that she was capable of killing her sister, but that she wouldn’t.

‘I think both characters have been through absolute hell since the death of their father in very different ways, and have turned into absolute lethal individuals,’ Alan noted of Arya and Sansa.

With Arya missing from the footage for next week’s episode, Sansa is seen wearing a dark hooded cloak, reminiscent of the Grim Reaper.

Episode seven, the season finale, can be seen on August 27, and will be a feature-length episode, running for 81 minutes.

Season eight is thought to be set for a premiere date in September 2018.
