Bucky first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The First Avenger, best friend to lead character Steve Rodgers during the war where he had supposedly died in the line of duty.

But the character returned in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as it was revealed he had survived the fall that seemed to kill him, but was a shadow of his former self after being brainwashed and armed with a new cybernetic limb.

An operative of the villainous organisation Hydra, he came face to face with Captain America and their reunion prompted him to begin remembering his past life.

He later teamed up with Steve in Captain America: Civil War, as the heroes split into two opposing groups and fought one another, and it was in this film that Bucky’s horrifying link to Tony Stark and the murder of his parents.

In Avengers: Infinity War, The Winter Soldier was one of the many characters to disintegrate after villain Thanos used his infinity gauntlet to erase half the world’s population with a snap of his fingers.
