  • Bale hasn’t featured since sustaining a calf injury towards the end of September
  • It was the first time the winger took part in full first-team training since the injury

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale took part in full first-team training on Saturday for the first time since his calf injury ahead of Sunday’s La Liga tie against Las Palmas.

The Wales international spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines, missing Real’s last five La Liga matches after picking up a calf problem during their Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund towards the end of September.

Madrid welcomed him back to light-training earlier this week but he failed to fully recover from his injury to be included in Zinedine Zidane’s squad for the defeat against his former side Tottenham in midweek.

Real boss Zidane will be boosted by the 28-year-old’s return to training as Madrid have struggled in recent weeks in his absence losing their last two games, which has led to the two-time Champions League winning boss being questioned for the first time in his 18-month tenure.

Bale joined in a fitness session on Saturday and was spotted jogging and stretching alongside his team-mates at their Ciudad training facilities in Valdebebas sports city near Madrid.

Zidane was given a further boost by Dani Carvajal’s participation, who also returned to training following a heart problem, but will have to wait until at least the end of the month before making his return to action.

Despite their recent rut the spirits in the Madrid camp seemed to be high as captain Sergio Ramos joked around with Kiko Casilla and Zidane watched on laughing.

They will be confident heading into their next game against lowly Las Palmas, having won the last two La Liga games at the Bernabeu.

Las Palmas have lost their last six league games and have never won away at Madrid.
