Geena Davis recalls how director made her sit in his lap during audition

Oscar winner Geena Davis revealed a director once made her sit in his lap during an audition ‘early on’ in her 37-year acting career.

‘I was auditioning for a part where in one scene, my character was going to be sitting on the lap of the male character,’ the 63-year-old mother-of-three recalled to USA Today on Friday.

‘The director said, “Just act the scene out with me,” and made me sit on his lap. It was kind of a sexy scene. I didn’t want to do it, and I was very uncomfortable, but I didn’t know you could say no.’

It was one of a ‘million’ such incidents the Massachusetts-born Mensa member suffered through before launching her Institute on Gender in Media in 2007.

‘So hopefully in the time of #MeToo and Time’s Up, women aren’t going to have to suffer through that,’ Geena (born Virginia) noted.

‘It’s pretty standard that you don’t meet alone with a man in a private room or hotel suite anymore, but plenty of that stuff goes on and has gone on for a long time.’

Davis went on to work with such esteemed filmmakers as Sydney Pollack, David Cronenberg, Tim Burton, Lawrence Kasdan, Ridley Scott, and Penny Marshall.

The This Changes Everything star plays Fan-Tan Hotel manager Sandy Devereaux St. Clair in the first episode of GLOW’s third season, which started streaming Friday on Netflix.

‘I loved that she was a former showgirl, because in some alternate universe I was a former showgirl,’ the Golden Globe winner gushed.

‘It was something I was always fascinated with. It’s just a great, fun character, and she’s inspirational to the girls on the team because she was in show business and then carved a career out for herself in management.’

On the personal front, Geena has been battling her estranged fourth husband Dr. Reza Jarrahy in court, who’s demanding $897K from her – according to The Blast.

The 48-year-old neurosurgeon filed for divorce from Davis in May 2018 after 16 years of marriage, and she responded in September claiming they were never ‘legally married.’

The Iranian-American doctor requested spousal support as well as joint legal/physical custody of their daughter Alizeh, 17; and fraternal twin sons Kian & Kaiis, 15.
