Rugby league footballer George Burgess’ wife Joanna has revealed she’s in hotel quarantine in Australia after quietly flying over from the UK.

On Sunday, the 31-year-old shared a string of photos from her hotel balcony in Sydney’s CBD, amid reports her husband, 29, has signed a two-year contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Alongside pictures of herself and the pair’s daughters Birdie, two, and Blainey, one, Joanna wrote: ‘Day seven hotel quarantine… hasn’t been too bad after all… lots of girlie time. Missing our boys.’

George and the pair’s son Boston, four, were not present in the images, seemingly hinting they could be arriving Down Under at a later date.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Australian model had also shared pictures of Sydney’s lockdown protests from her balcony on Saturday, captioned: ‘The people want their freedom.’

She later added: ‘Just to clarify – I never stated I was for or against the protest held in Sydney today: It was just a little something different for my girls to watch from our hotel quarantine balcony: Day six.’

George and Joanna married in Noosa in 2016.

The Burgess family had relocated to the UK in 2019, after George signed a three-year deal with England’s Wigan Warriors.

He played eight times in the 2020 season, before leaving the club due to an ongoing hip injury.

In June 2021, George confirmed his interest in an NRL comeback with the Dragons following life-changing hip surgery.

He told Nine he had an ‘informal chat’ with St George Illawarra assistant coach Peter Gentle about potentially pursuing a gig with the Dragons.

‘It was a really informal thing… I’m mates with him and keep in touch with him and he just spoke to me and obviously he’s an assistant there now,’ he said.

‘It was really informal but obviously the Dragons are a great club.’
