He said: ‘Eight years! And they said it wouldn’t last. Everything about my wife is sort of magical, as I think everybody has come to realize as they see her and hear her and hear what she stands for. There’s just no downside to her!’

The Gravity star was also asked about the ‘moral code’ he and his wife hope to instill in their five-year-old twins Alexander and Ella.

He said: ‘The same thing I think everybody wants to instill in their kids, really. Which is to pay attention to other people. In my family, the rules were always “Challenge people with power, defend people with less power.” And if you can do that, you’ve had a good life.’

George and Amal were introduced in 2013 by mutual friends.

The actor explained during a previous appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, about the day he first met his future wife. ‘It’s the wildest thing. A mutual friend of ours said, “I’m stopping by and can I bring my friend?”‘

‘And I was like, “Of course.” I got a call from my agent who called me and said, “I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re gonna marry,”‘ the actor added.

Upon crossing paths, sparks immediately flew. One year later, George got down on one knee and proposed.

When reflecting on the special night, the star told The Hollywood Reporter that Amal was utterly surprised and it took her a few moments to respond.

‘She just kept staring at the ring, going, “Oh, my God.” It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.’

They got their marriage license in London on August 7, 2014 and tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Venice in 2014. Following the wedding they had a final civil ceremony on September 29 at Ca’Farsetti, Venice’s town hall.

The couple went on to welcome their twins Ella and Alexander in June 2017.
