Trump critic George Conway chided the president Friday in a series of tweets questioning the president’s explanation for calling off the Iran missile strike

George Conway called the president a liar yet again on Friday in a long series of tweets that also recommended Trump resign over his handling of the called-off Iran missile strike two days ago.

Conway, a conservative attorney and one of President Trump’s most devout critics – who also happens to be the spouse of one of Trump’s closest surrogates, Kellyanne Conway, joined the chorus of political observers who questioned the Commander in Chief’s explanation on why he cancelled the missile strike at the last minute early Friday morning.

Trump tweeted on Friday that US missiles were ‘cocked & loaded to retaliate’ late Thursday night after Iran’s military forces shot down a US surveillance drone flying over the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman until his military advisers informed him 10 minutes before takeoff that 150 people would be killed in the attack.

’10 minutes before the strike I stopped it,’ Trump tweeted. ‘[150 casualties is] not… proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone.’

Conway questioned whether Trump was telling the truth about why he changed his mind about the strike, saying there’s no way Trump’s advisers waited until 10 minutes before the operation’s launch to tell the president about an anticipated casualty count in the hundreds.

‘To say this is amateur hour would defame amateurs,’ Conway tweeted. ‘I would have thought a president would be given a casualty assessment up front… It’s possible he didn’t care until he cared, and now he’s lying about it. Lord knows he lies about everything. Either way, his incompetence is staggering.’

Conway also called on Trump to ‘resign’ on Friday and retweeted several political analysts who questioned how the cancelled strike actually unfolded.

A White House official confirmed to CNN that Trump did ask military advisers for an anticipated casualty count about 30 minutes ahead of the strikes, but said the president was also provided with an estimated death toll long before that moment.

Whether or not Trump heard or fully processed the likely loss of life is a separate issue.

Kellyanne Conway hasn’t commented on her husband’s latest attack on her boss. She’s been forced to reconcile her relationships with both men during their previous back-and-forth verbal barrages.

‘Trump called George a ‘stone cold LOSER ‘ and a ‘husband from hell!’ after George questioned Trump’s mental health in March.

Fox News anchors Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace also questioned Trump’s methodology Friday. Wallace, after speaking to a former top national security official, told Smith on Smith’s show that Trump’s timeline ‘just doesn’t add up.’

‘The idea that the president, ten minutes before the actual go — and again, The New York Times is reporting that the ships were in place, that the war planes were in the air — that ten minutes before you’re learning for the first time that there were going to be 150 casualties, seems pretty unlikely and certainly not the way it’s been done in the past,’ Wallace said.

Initial reports indicated US jets were already in the air when Trump called off the Thursday night missile strike.

In a Sunday morning interview with Chuck Todd on ‘Meet the Press,’ Trump clarified that the operation hadn’t started before he changed his mind about it.

‘Nothing was green-lighted because things change, right?’ Trump said.

Todd asked if US fighter planes had taken off before the president’s about-face.

‘No,’ Trump responded, ‘but they would have been pretty soon and things would have happened to a point where they wouldn’t turn back or couldn’t turn back…

‘They shot down an unmanned drone, plane, whatever you want to call it,’ Trump said of the Iranians. ‘I didn’t like it. I didn’t think it was proportionate.’
