German cops stop British rally after drivers raced at 125pm on public roads

Rally drivers have been pulled over in Germany for racing on public roads at 125mph.

Police were inundated with calls from terrified local drivers who saw the racers speed past in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The drivers were repeatedly using their headlights to signal to others on a busy motorway that they should make way, locals said.

At Montabaur, about halfway between Cologne and Frankfurt on the A3 motorway, police stopped them on the second stage of the rally from Amsterdam.

The drivers were given a stern talking to by police but were not fined because there are no speed limits on the road.

The amateur racers who got pulled over were four Dutch drivers who joined their British counterparts on the Pure Rally 2018 Oktoberfest from London to Frankfurt.

A police spokesman said: ‘In total, about 15 vehicles took part in the race from the Netherlands to Frankfurt.

‘Witnesses of the illegal traffic manoeuvres in this regard are requested to contact the Montabaur motorway police.’

A spokesman for Pure Rally told MailOnline: ‘The Dutch boys got pulled over and got a talking to – but they weren’t fined because there’s no speed limit. They were allowed to get on with the drive.’

The Pure Rally 2018 Oktoberfest started last Friday in London, with the first stage taking the drivers to the Dutch capital of Amsterdam for an Oktoberfest warm-up party.

On Saturday, the drivers headed from Amsterdam to Frankfurt on the second and last stage of the two-day rally to partake in the local Oktoberfest celebrations.

On its website, the Pure Rally advertises the event as ‘the ultimate trip for the summer for only £450 plus vat per person’.

It reads: ‘Starting in London, you’ll get to travel in convoy to Oktoberfest, stopping on the way to party in Amsterdam for the night before we head off to Oktoberfest to party at the city’s best nightclubs before we head back to London.

‘You’ll be visiting the coolest international venues accompanied by the hottest Pure Rally babes.’
