Gina Riley and Jane Turner reveal the ABC wanted to CANCEL Kath & Kim ahead of the iconic show’s 20th anniversary special

Kath & Kim stars Gina Riley and Jane Turner revealed on Thursday the ABC was close to pulling the plug on the iconic series while it was still in planning.

Actress Gina Riley, 61, explained that during the development stage in 2002 the ABC lost faith in the show and told them they didn’t want to be associated with it.

‘It was Friday and we were going to pre-production on Monday. We got a call saying, “It’s no longer the direction we want to go in,”‘ Riley told The Age.

In addition, the broadcaster said they should be grateful.

Fortunately, the actresses fought hard to convince upper management the show should go ahead and managed to change their minds.

Co-star Jane Turner, 61, said she and Riley ‘never stopped working’ on the series despite the challenges and did not rest until they turned their dreams into reality.
