Gippsland LGBT woman punched in homophobic attack in Sale

  • A woman has been assaulted in a country street because of her t-shirt slogan
  • She was wearing a t-shirt which read ‘born fabulous, not straight’ when punched
  • Victorian police are investigating the incident as a ‘homophobic attack’

Police are searching for a man who punched a 26-year-old woman in the face in a country street ‘because she was wearing a shirt with the slogan ”born fabulous not straight” on the front’.

The woman was walking through a park in Sale, regional Victoria, with her dog when she was approached by three men, according to police.

One of the men looked at her t-shirt, reading the slogan before making a comment and punching her in the nose.

The bright-pink lettering of the slogan was written in capitals – and hovered above a rainbow and two pink sex symbols on the otherwise plain white t-shirt.

But after the attack the t-shirt was covered in blood. The attack happened at about 2.30pm in Guthridge Parade, near Lake Guyatt and Stephenson Park.

The men, who have been described as ‘in their 20s’ ran away from the woman after the attack.

They were wearing black jeans and black or grey hooded jumpers, according to police, with one man described as having a full face of acne.

‘Every Victorian has the right to feel safe and secure in the community. Victoria Police does not tolerate violence and takes all crime seriously, including that which is motivated by prejudice, racism or discrimination,’ police said.
