Girl, 17, is killed instantly and six others are rushed to hospital after horror crash that ripped a sedan in half – as witnesses claim they saw the cars drag racing beforehand

A 17-year-old teenage girl is dead and six other people have been rushed to hospital after a horrific multi car crash in Melbourne’s east. 

At about 12pm on Sunday, three cars collided near Kelletts Road, in Rowville.

The 17-year-old girl, from Narre Warren, was a passenger in one of the vehicles and died at the scene.

One of the cars was torn in half after smashing into a power pole. Photos show debris from the cars scattered across the road.

Witnesses reportedly told 9 News two of the vehicles were ‘dragging each other’ just moments before the fatal incident.   

The drivers of each of the three vehicles are all currently assisting police with their enquiries.

They include a 27-year-old Pakenham man, a 19-year-old Narre Warren woman and 26-year-old man from Clyde North. 

The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic on Stud Road is being diverted from Fulham Road and Ferntree Gully Road.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
