An 18-year-old girl has been saved by fellow passengers after she slipped from a speeding train.

The girl, who has not been identified, was on a train travelling at 80 mph in Mumbai, in Maharashtra, India.

In the shocking footage a few people can be seen standing near the exit of the train and the teenager is stood at the edge, holding onto a metal pole near the door.

As another train approaches on opposite tracks the girl starts to tilt outside

The 18-year-old girl can be seen standing at the edge of the train carriage (left) as it travels through Mumbai, India. She then starts to lean (right) outside as another train approaches 

A few moments later she leans out of the carriage and her foot slips off the footboard.

As she starts to tip outside another train can be seen moving towards her on the opposite tracks. 

It appears as though the girl is hit by the other train and a loud ‘thud’ can be heard.  

However, as soon as the girl slips from the footboard she is caught by an aware passenger wearing a shirt, who was stood behind her and had watched her start to fall.  

She can be seen dangling in the air as the passenger holds her hand and another man in a tartan patterned shirt grabs her clothes. 

She dangles from the exit for a few seconds before the men can pull her back up

The two men stop her from hitting the floor and help her back inside

After the girl is pulled back up to safety she looks dazed and staggers a little before scrunching her face. 

One of the passengers Mahesh Mahatre said: ‘This is not the first time I have seen such an accident. 

‘The young boys and girls mostly travel on footboards and many accidents and deaths have happened in the past, but they won’t take a lesson.’ 

Many deaths have been reported in the past due to people travelling on the dangerous train footboards. 

Mumbai local trains are famous locations for young men to try train surfing  while others watch them perform the stunts.
