Before revealing her skincare regimen in a YouTube video, Rekik who goes by Dope Ethiopian on social media, shared a disclaimer: ‘Please be sure to do your own research and use the products safely and accordingly.

‘This routine works for me. I can’t promise the same results for your skin.’

Rekik begins her routine by pouring Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner ($7) onto a cotton pad and cleansing her skin.

Rekik gushed that she loves witch hazel and uses it as a makeup remover as well as a daily toner.

She said that she swears by this product because it’s a natural astringent that can be used to remove excess oil, prevent blemishes and minimize appearance of pores – ‘the list honestly goes on,’ she joked.

Next, she washes her face with Trader Joe’s SPA Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil ($11) which she pumps onto an electric cleaning brush.

After swapping Noxzema out of her skincare regimen she started using this face wash made with castille soap.

Castille soap is made with plant fats rather than animal fats and she said, ‘If you’ve never used this type of face wash before you’ll definitely feel a different type of clean.’

As for the face brush she uses, Rekik laughed when she admitted, ‘It’s just a random spin brush from Marshalls that has no batteries in it.’

Once she massages the cleanser onto her face she first rinses it off with warm water and then switches to cold water before she dries off.

The fourth step in the routine is witch hazel again but this time she squirts some on a cotton pad to tone the skin.

Next is moisturizer and Rekik confessed that she used to use the $7 Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion as her face cream but recently switched to African Shea Butter ($8) which she says, ‘Is the best.’

Gushing about the raw shea butter which she also made sure to note she applies to her neck, she said, ‘I love the long lasting moisturizing feeling that the shea butter brings my skin.

‘I lather it all over my face every night and wake up looking like gold.’

After moisturizing she uses OXY Maximum Action 3 in 1 Acne Treatment Pads ($5) which she doesn’t use daily and only uses them in particular circumstances.

‘I try to stay away from acidic products as much as I can but when it comes to breakouts or pimples I want them gone fast and Oxy will get the job done,’ she admitted.

If she has a breakout or pimple she’ll use one of the pads to gently wipe the area but warned, ‘Be sure not to press too hard to not aggravate the area.’

The final step in the routine is tea tree oil which she says has antibiotic properties that help aid against skin ailments.

Rekik uses De La Cruz Tea Tree Oil ($9) but warns against using it often stating, ‘Be sure not to use too much because tea tree oil can dry your skin out.

‘It can trigger your body to over produce its own oils and can make your acne worse.’

Aside from Rekik’s miracle skincare routine, there are other factors that go into her clear skin such as the fact that she’s a vegan so her diet is mostly plant-based.

She also said another factor is, ‘I try not to touch my face throughout the day unless my hands are washed. The dirt from your hands can easily cause breakouts.’

Aside from her full skincare routine Rekik also uses a face mask that she ‘swears by’ and makes it herself using two simple ingredients.

To make the face mask she uses bentonite clay and personally favors the $10 Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay but said you can use any type of the clay.

Gushing about the clay she said, ‘Not only does it work magic for your face but it has plenty of other health uses.’

Once you have the clay you need a liquid to go with it and she suggest using an apple cider vinegar, rose water or just regular purified water.

Although you can use any of the three she said the clay goes best with the vinegar and she uses Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar ($6).

She also loves rose water and will alternate between vinegar and Heritage Rose Petals Rosewater Mist Spray ($7).

The results of Rekik’s skincare routine are astounding and there is little to no trace that she ever had terrible acne in the first place.
