Brave girl, 8, fights off alleged abductor in her front yard, breaking free, raising the alarm and forcing him to FLEE

An eight-year-old girl managed to fight off an alleged abductor in the front yard of her home in the Northern Territory.

The girl was allegedly assaulted by a 25-year-old man at the property on McMillans Road in Anula, in Darwin’s north at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

Police allege the man entered the front yard and assaulted the girl who managed to break free from his grip.

The alleged offender then fled the scene and jumped the fences of neighbouring homes.

‘A resident chased the alleged offender, apprehending him on the footpath nearby and holding him until police arrived,’ NT Police said in a statement.

The 25-year-old was arrested on the scene and remains in custody.

He is yet to be charged.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jon Beer praised the young girl’s bravery and urged any witnesses to come forward. 

‘The girl suffered minor injuries and was very brave in fighting back and getting away,’ he said.

‘Investigations are continuing to determine exactly what happened and we urge anyone who saw this incident or other unusual activity in the area to contact police.

‘No child should have an experience like this and we will hold the offender to account.’
