A shocking video has emerged of a child playing outside with an umbrella during a storm when she appears to be hit by lightning.

The girl is filmed standing under a drain as it dumps a deluge of water on top of her during heavy rain in Asia yesterday.

She holds an umbrella over her head which shields her from the worst of the water.

When she decides she has had had enough of this particular game, she skips into the sodden garden.

But a lightning bolt appears to strike and hit the umbrella directly before the video cuts out.

It is reported that the child survived the harrowing incident.

The girl was lucky to survive the lightning bolt because she was doing a number of things that are highly inadvisable during an electrical storm.

Standing under an umbrella can increase your chance of being struck by lightning if it makes you the tallest object in the area.

Holding metal objects – such as umbrella handles – also makes you more vulnerable to lightning strikes because it conducts electricity.

It appeared as if the lightning was attracted to her umbrella although it was not clear exactly where it struck. The girl is reported to have survived the potentially deadly ordeal
