An eight-year-old girl who was hit and killed by a car on a Michigan bridge on Tuesday evening was holding her mom’s hand and carrying fresh fruit to give to the homeless.
Nevaeh Alston was hit by a pedestrian car while crossing Bridge Street NW in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at approximately 9.15pm.
The young girl was found unconscious in the road and was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, WZZM13 reports.

She had been wearing a white tank top with gray leggings when the crash occurred.
‘She was holding onto her mother’s hand, and went to run across the street, and mom tried to grab her. …’ said Brittany Paas – cousin to mother Sarah Hampton – via a message.
‘Nevaeh got scared and thought she could make it across the street, and ran faster, then got hit.’

A GoFundMe for Nevaeh’s funeral arrangements has been made by family, raising over $7,705 in one day, surpassing its $7,500 goal
Nevaeh, along with her mother and uncle, had been on their way to help feed the homeless, according to Paas.
She was known for her efforts in helping others in the community, fitting since her name is ‘heaven’ spelled backwards.
The girl was a student at Kent Hills Elementary School. Principal Benjamin Rodgers sent an letter home to parents about the accident.
‘I am writing to inform you of the passing of a Kent Hills student, Nevaeh Alston, who passed away yesterday following a pedestrian-car accident,’ he said.

‘Nevaeh will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go to her family, friends, and the entire Kent Hills family.

Police report that the crash is under investigation but the driver appeared to not be under the influence of alcohol and was not speeding. The driver is a resident of Grand Rapids.
