A man charged with the murder of a 22-month-old girl almost five years ago has appeared in court today.
Mia Gregson died in February 2014 after becoming seriously ill at her home in Hull. A pathologist initially put her death down to natural causes.
But police have continued investigating what they have called a ‘complex’ case and this week charged Jonathan Garner, the ex-partner of Mia’s mother, with murder and failing to protect the baby girl.

Mia’s mother Samantha Gregson, 25, also faces a charge of failing to protect the baby girl.
They appeared at Hull Crown Court separately and a trial date was set for January 14 2019.
Wearing black short sleeved shirt and black jeans, Gregson, from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, spoke only to confirm her name and was released on bail until the next hearing.
Garner from Hull, East Yorkshire, wearing a grey jumper spoke only to confirm his name and will attend a further bail application on January 3.
No pleas were entered during the hearing.
The house in Hull was later boarded up while the investigation continued
