Police storm a Sydney unit after reports of a ‘domestic violence’ incident and arrest one man – as a cop is rushed to hospital with stab wounds to the head

A man has been arrested after police stormed a Sydney unit following reports of a domestic violence incident – as an officer was rushed to hospital with stab wounds. 

The officer suffered lacerations to the back of his head after being called to the apartment on Punt Road, Gladesville about 11.20am on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police negotiators were then called in and took a man into custody about 12.30pm.

Channel Seven footage showed the injured officer being lifted into an ambulance by paramedics while clutching the back of his head. 

A man was then filmed being led out of a unit with his shirt torn and into a waiting police van. 

There is a heavy police presence in the north-west Sydney street including a dog squad, armed tactical officers and a helicopter.

Traffic diversions are in place on Punt Road and motorists have been urged to avoid the area. 

Police have not yet shared any further information as the operation is still ongoing.
