She was released later the same day without any lasting physical injuries and is looking forward to getting back to training.

‘Physically I am A-OK, but I’m still processing things mentally,’ Wuetschner told The Age.

‘I am feeling a bit flat physically so will be resting my body. I was very lucky and I’m feeling very fortunate.’

Many women’s AFL players supplement their incomes with other jobs. Wuetschner works night shifts as a stevedore after training.

Brisbane Lions AFLW CEO Breeanna Brock said in a statement that the team is supporting her.

‘We are just so thankful that she is all right,’ she said.

‘A moment like this put things into perspective, that’s for sure.

‘We’ll continue to work with Jess and our team here at the club to make sure she has everything she needs to get back to normal.’
